Greetings Spendthrifts,
My goodness autumn has arrived quickly! I actually don’t think I’ve ever seen a London summer end so abruptly - I was hoping we’d get some sort of prolonged Indian summer situation the way we have the last couple of years, but as soon as September arrived summer packed her sh*t up expeditiously. Climate change, eh? She giveth and she taketh away.
Still, every rain-soaked cloud brings with it a silver lining, in this case the arrival of autumn fashion. Cosy knit season. When Harry Met Sally weather.
I won’t bore you with a lengthy intro on why autumn dressing is so great - you know it, I know it, and by now you’ve probably read enough about ‘back to school’ dressing that you just want to get straight to the good stuff. So without further delay - here’s all the good stuff I’m looking at this month.
Calvin Klein x Nensi Dojaka
The second I saw this collection make its way down the catwalk at LFW I knew I needed it in my wardrobe. I find big brands teaming up with cooler young designers can be a bit hit-and-miss, but this collab absolutely nails it - it has all the Nensi Dojaka signatures (sheer tulle, strappy details, general minimalism), but filtered into items that are more wearable on a day-to-day basis, not to mention a more accessible price point.
Influenced almost entirely by the lookbook imagery of Mona Tougaard (above), I immediately bought the black sheer bodysuit with the intention of recreating that exact look with the baggy Silverlake Mica jeans I’ve been wearing non-stop lately, although I actually ended up incorporating it into a smarter look for its maiden voyage to an art exhibition opening/dinner last week.
It makes an excellent layering piece and I can already tell I’m going to wear it alot. It’s also available in burgundy - and given that a few stockists are showing limited availability on some pieces (try Nensi Dojaka direct, as well as SSENSE, MyTheresa or Selfridges), I’d advise you to move fast as I don’t think it’ll be available for long..
Bottega Veneta pumps
Head over heels in love with Bottega Veneta’s Lewis pumps, which I first spotted on FT editor Jo Ellison’s Instagram a few weeks ago and have had open in at least four separate tabs ever since (they also come in black and green croc, so naturally I have to toggle between the different colourways).
Will I stump up a four figure amount for these shoes? Only time will tell - but in the meantime I’ve been trying to figure out exactly what it is about them I find so appealing, in the hope of finding shoes that scratch the same itch (but don’t cost a clean grand - Matthieu Blazy, have mercy!).
I’ve landed on the high vamp/slanted heel as being the key attributes here, and spent quite some time scouring the Internet for shoes that have a similar vibe. Here are four of the best pairs I found:
